Jazz Hands

I'm sooooooooooooo excited!!!! I'm actually LIKING exercise lately what with the Wii Fit and my newest obsession. Can you guess? I'll give you a hint...I might have to buy this from Every Little Count's Etsy shop to wear to class:

It's Jazzercise! It's soooo entirely fun. I was actually looking forward to class today (what the frig?). Their new building is just 5 minutes from my house too. I had no idea what to expect, but I looked on the Jazzercise website, and figured out it's basically aerobics but kinda more dancey. The songs are all newer REAL songs (sung by the real people), and it's so fun. I was sold when they started playing Untouched by The Veronicas (I love that song!). Plus, I'm getting to know a new friend which is always nice.

Other tidbits from this week

-I've been getting an Etsy package like every day! Today it was a bib for V's party Saturday (pic to come Saturday) and another from my newest Etsy obsession, Retro NaNa. Hold onto your hats-- I seriously almost hyperventilated over all the cuteness. Look at just a few things that I bought!

Those CD labels are beautiful. I don't know if I will ever be able to part with them.

-Wide Awake Chapter 49 is up!!!! Some very good/funny parts. I'm patiently waiting for the unavoidable smut. She has to take us out on a smutty note. Too much angst, not enough dirty stuff. No, but in all seriousness, I love love LOVE the story so much. So sad there is only 1 chappy to go + epilogue. Boooooooo.

-Lost was sooooooooooooooooo good tonight! Although I'm sad. Can't say any more...I cried. I admit it.

-Preparing for Viv's party this weekend. The 'rents are coming early to help me around the house and to help me with my YARD which looks horrendous.

Happy Hump Day, y'all! xo

Quickie No-Sew Appliqued Romper

I bought a bunch of blank shirts and rompers for Q & V for spring with the intention of appliqueing. Did one for Q last week to see how well the appliques hold up in the wash without being sewn down (very good!). Today I did an apple romper for Miss Viv with scraps of vintage fabrics.

If anyone wants to try, here is the apple pattern I used.

Is It Me?

So I feel like I'm in some weird world where my rude sensor is out of whack. Am I overreacting? Help me out, please.

First incident: an international Etsy customer placed an order last week. By no means do I mind sending international, it's just more of a hassle since I have to actually go to the Post Office and stand in line rather than mail from home or use the automatic postal center. So she bought an item last Tuesday ($12.50 total) and then told me that she wasn't going to have the money for a week. I was like, "Really? You don't have $12.50?". Told her I was going to cancel her order if no money by last Friday. Today she said, nope, won't have the money until this Friday. Go ahead and cancel the order. WTF???? Which I will do, but should I leave neg feedback? She was very pleasant and all which makes me wonder if I'm overreacting? I just don't get it.

Second incident: I called to order V's bday cake today (her bday is a week from Fri) to our local Kroger store. Mind you, I had a bad incident in November when I wanted to order a photo cake for Q's bday. The bakery person was REALLY rude, and I ended up talking to the manager who was completely nice and apologetic. Told me to come in and get a free cake anytime which I never did. Frankly, I'm weird about that. I don't want free shit, I don't want ordering a freaking cake to be a huge inconvenience. FF to today-- SAME rude experience. This is how it played out:

Rudie: (inaudible apathetic greeting...something I assumed to be "Bakery Department")
Me: Hi, I'd like to place an order to pick up on Saturday, May 1
Rudie: Name?
Me: Sarah M-U-L--
Rudie: I DON'T NEED YOUR LAST NAME. What do you want?
Me: (getting pissed but pressing on), I need a cake for about 8 people. What would you suggest?
Rudie: (Silent)
Me: Ok, um, well, how many people does your round cake feed?
Rudie: *sighhhhhhh*
Me: OK, IS THERE A PROBLEM? I ASKED YOU A SIMPLE QUESTION. ARE YOU THIS RUDE TO EVERYONE???? (Yes, I LOST IT)
Rudie: I wasn't being rude, you asked how many people--
Me: I want to talk to your manager.
*is put on hold for 5 minutes* I finally hang up

I did end up calling back. Again, the manager was really nice and said she would be addressing the situation immediately. I just don't get it. I work with the public EVERY DAMN DAY. If I acted like that, I would be out of a job. I got another free cake which I DIDN'T want but the manager insisted. Ugh. I'm super scared there's going to be loogies in it or something. I'm sure you're wondering why I would go there again. I was hoping the first time was just a bad incident, and I'm really picky about my buttercream. IMO, Costco has the best cakes, but I hate going there, and I'm too cheap to get a membership for a few cakes per year. Kroger is the second best. I wish I liked Holiday Market's, but I don't.

Thanks for listening to my Tuesday rantings....

On a lighter note, so yes, Miss Viv is turning 1 next weekend. My girly girl is growing up. Can't wait to show you all the decorations, but you will see a few below courtesy of Crossroads Cottage. Her theme is vintage and pinwheels!

Mini Alerts

Need to keep this short as I need to go play Dead Rising (I got a new weapon!). No, a 13 year old boy hasn't taken over my blog. It's still me. So, a couple things:

1. Had to show you my new purse courtesy of Jujie-- aren't you jealous?? I'm so kidding, but isn't it adorable??? She even custom made a larger than normal one for me because of my enormous pile of crapola I need to tote around on a daily basis.

2. I received confirmation on Decor8's blog today that harem pants are back in. My friend, Shelly, told me this a few weeks ago. She said all over downtown Chicago had them in their window displays. I searched high and low in my 90's pics to find me in my Hammer pants to no avail. I did, however, find my prom pic. If anyone knows a Matt Rossi from Solvay, NY, that's him.

3. Seriously, if you haven't read Wide Awake yet, DO IT. If you liked Twilight, you will LOVE it. I can't get enough and I'm seriously having withdrawal. She's got 2 more chapters left, and I'm chomping at the bit. It's seriously raunchy though and the F drop is plentiful, so consider yourself warned. Rob would be THE perfect Darkward.

4. I forgot to say that I finally saw Let the Right One In on Easter weekend, and it may have made my list of favorite all-time movies. I've been wanting to see it since last year. I must own it. Now I want to read the book. My bro directed me to the IMDB FAQs on the movie. If you've seen the movie, it provides some great additional info.

The Dionne Quints

I had been hemming and hawing about buying this picture for my craftroom. But when Michelle added the background of the pic to her Etsy listing, I knew I had to have it (photo courtesy of MyWagonette).

The Dionne quintuplets were born in Canada in 1934 and were the first known quintuplets in the world. They were taken away from their parents and raised in a hospital and became Canada's second largest tourist attraction (next to Niagra Falls). Apparently, two of the sisters are still alive today. Apparently, the Canadian government made over $500 million at their expense. Unsure as to how much the ladies actually saw of that (probably none).

The dolls in the picture were produced by Madam Alexander in 1938 and are now worth a pretty penny (even the reproduction dolls are expensive). I would love to own the whole set, but I will settle for the picture. Sigh...what a tragic story.

On another note, don't forget to become a Girl Land fan on Facebook AND/OR leave a comment to my post from last week! You have until Friday. Tell your friends. Whoot.

Possible Blaspheme

Happy Good Friday. I’m unsure that is an appropriate salutation as today is a slightly morbid day in Christianity (sorry, I am approaching blaspheme…I’ll shut up now).

I am technically supposed to be fasting. However, since I’m eating only Nutrisystem food, I feel as if I’m constantly teetering on the edge of a massive (Easter candy) binge. Therefore, I won’t push my luck and deprive myself further. In fact, I’ve been daydreaming about Cadbury Eggs today, and I’ve comprised a little haiku:

Choco creme goodness
Is my resistance futile?
I fear we’ll BOTH crack

Photo courtesy of Gallery32/Chocolata on Flickr

Ha! I’d venture to say that the Easter season provides the best candy of all holidays. Besides my affinity for the Cadbury Creme Egg, I’m partial to the malted robin’s eggs, Cadbury Mini Eggs, Peeps (mmm), and the big jellybird eggs. I also love the buttered popcorn Jelly Bellies which were a staple at my grandma’s house because she used them in her birdnest cookies.

That being said and out of my system, you’ll see that I have added a little progress chart of my weight loss along the sidebar to spur me on. I’m still on track for my November 20 goal. I shall persevere!

Become A Girl Land Fan + Spring Giveaway Bonanza!

I need some morrrrrre Facebook Fans. If you become a Girl Land fan between now and next Friday, April 17 (or are already a fan), I will FB message you with a discount code for 20% off your total purchase (before s&h) AND you will be entered into a Spring-licious Giveaway! Think button candies, magnets, and some kawaii goodness with spring flair. You can either click the link along my left sidebar, or go to my FB Girl Land page here.

Don’t have a Crackbook account? Is it a bit too “big brother” for you? Don’t fret. I’ll still give you a 10% discount for being my bloggy friend.

Just enter the above code in the “message to seller” and wait to pay—I will send you a revised invoice.

In addition, it has been entirely way too long since I’ve done a giveaway on this blog. So if you comment on this post with something you’re looking forward to this Spring (be it flowers in your garden, a trip, a Springy craft project, upcoming movie, etc.), I will enter you in a second giveaway. And, as always, if you link to this post on your blog, let me know about it, and you will get THREE entries! One person is eligible to win both contests.

Phew! I’m spent. xo

Me Likey

♥The invitations for Viv's bday party (and packages of 8 soon to be in my shop! Just waiting on the envelopes).

Iowans

♥Zac Efron dropped out of Footloose. Maybe they'll scrap it altogether. I can only hope. I say this only because I have the utmost respect for the original and I couldn't bear to see them do the same thing they did to Hairspray (sorry, guys, I know some of you loved it).

♥My kid. She was "writing notes".

This one said, "Dear God, please bring me a new toy". She amuses me immensely.

♥A Saturday with NOTHING TO DO (hurrah!).

♥Still being on track with my Skinny Girl Land mission even though I only lost .6 lbs this week and having the strength to tell myself now that I am NOT going to eat ANY Easter candy this year. I've had Cadbury Eggs before. I know what they taste like. And I'm NOT going to slide down that slippery slope *punches luscious cream-filled confection square in its nose*.

♥My hub being home from California. Wrangling the girls alone wasn't as hard as I had expected. I just missed him.

♥Our soon-to-be houseguest in the form of our 15 year old babysitter. She is staying with us for a few days while her mom is out of town. I'm looking forward to Wii'ing with her and dishing on Rob Pattinson. :) The girl is wise beyond her years.

Happy weekending all! xo
