It's Okay to be Worried About Zombies

Some people know about my fixation with zombies and horror movies in general. It's hard to explain my fascination. I think it started with my being coerced into watching Friday the 13th when I was 8 years old and Poltergeist shortly thereafter. Or it could have been stumbling across my brother's Fangoria magazines which scared the bejesus out of me (I like this definition of bejesus by the way) but intrigued me at the same time. My taste in horror movies and zombie movies are probably not viewed as very sophisticated, but that's alright. I likes what I likes and I won't likes no more (or less)!!!

I stumbled across Tina's Etsy Shop one fine February day and had to ask her to make Q and I quasi-matching zombie shirts. I am embarrassed to say that on more than one occasion, I have thought, "What if zombies became an epidemic? I can't run very fast...maybe I'd just let them eat me...hmmmm..." Long story short, we received the tees today, I love them, and Q did too. She won't be able to wear it for awhile-- I ordered big, but we tied it over her shoulders and she meandered around the house and played (with it on her) for a solid 45 minutes before bed tonight. I think she, one day, may also worry about zombies. I want her to know that it's okay! It's a valid concern.

To round out this post, I shall list off to you 6 of my favorite zombie movies (I WON'T apologize for not including the original Dawn of the Dead or Evil Dead, see 1st paragraph) and 10 of my favorite horror movies (ditto for not including The Shining, The Exorcist, etc.). This is, by no means, a comprehensive list, but just a taste of movies that at some point or another affected my bejesus:

ZOMBIE MOVIES: 1. 28 Days Later (2002) 2. Night of the Living Dead (1968) 3. Dawn of the Dead (2004) 4. Night of the Living Dead (1990) 5. Shaun of the Dead (2004) 6. Land of the Dead (2005)

HORROR MOVIES: 1. The Haunting (1963) 2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 3. Halloween (1978) 4. Halloween II (1981) 5. House on Haunted Hill (1999) 6. Waxwork (1988) 7. House of Wax (2005) 8. Children of the Corn (1984) 9. Frailty (2001) 10. Carrie (1976).

My Own Etsy Treasury

So there's this thing on Etsy where you can sign up to have a Treasury. It is where you can share 12 of your favorite items with the Etsy community. And the hope is that people will love your treasury then visit your store as well. Apparently, people try endlessly to sign up, but they are always full. And even if a spot opens, it is gone in like a micromillisecond. Soooo...without further ado, here is my Blogspot Etsy Treasury (since I will never get a real one)!!!! (drumroll...)

Happy Mon...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I got four hours of sleep last night...FOUR HOURS! I don't even know how I'm functioning right now. Jeesh. Partially my fault, I was off working on wares for my shop and headed for bed after midnight. But then, Miss Q decided to wake up every 15 minutes and cry beginning at 4:15. I ended up biting the bullet and getting up at 5:45ish. Yuck. I had my Starbucks though and was alrighty.

Don't have too much to share except check out my new Girl Land logo on this blog and my new banner and avatar in my shop. Isn't it dreeeeamy? I'm hoping it comes off creepy enough. I like "scary cute" things. Does tha make sense? Like creepy old baby planters and my soon to be listed 3-D lenticular top boxes!!! WEEEEEHHHOOOOOOOOooo. I'll show you what I'm talkin' bout soon enough.

So I was in Michael's today and for the second time I saw this cutie pie book. Rarely do I bake (just what I need), but I simply liked this book for the aesthetic value. You can buy it on Amazon. I looked around inside a little, but not in great detail. Made me wanna have a bake sale like in junior high. I looove the blue and red combo. You will see that I am loving the blue/red and seafoam/red combos as of late. I dunno why.

Cookie Coma

So my cousin came over today, and the hubbies watched basketball while we baked then proceeded to eat our weight in valentine cookies, cookie dough and frosting. Great for my "diet", right? We did not, however, see eye to eye on the cookie recipe or the frosting. My grandmother's recipe that my cousin and aunt uses calls for anise. I like black licorice, but not when I'm eating sugar cookies. So I won out on that part. However, I like to make icing over a stovetop and it gets all good and buttery and crackley. Jana makes hers with a hand beater and it gets all fluffy. Still good, I admit (didn't stop me from eating any), but I like mine better. So there you have it. I have about 2 dozen for the potluck at work, a dozen for Q's daycare party, Jana took about 1.5 dozen, and then I made 5 plates for my friends at work. I don't have any to spare (thank God).

So that's that. I'm dreading work tomorrow although it's been nice and slow. But I'm trying to THINK SPRING. I've been getting some advice from my friend at work (landscape architect) to draw up a landscape plan for Jana. There are some GREAT opportunities for those in the Detroit area to get some cheapo trees and shrubs through The Greening of Detroit plant sale and ROOT program. So tell your friends.

Last but not least, I wanted to post the pics of the valentines I gave out in 3rd grade. Also, the MJ sticker pic is for Jessie who said she had an "I heart Michael Jackson" sticker. I also had several other MJs-- the weirdest I can think of at this moment was a teddy bear with Michael Jackson outfit stickers you could put ON the teddy bear. Hmmm...I will try to find that one next time I am home. Have a good week, all. xoxo

A Sticky Blast from the Past

I came home yesterday to find a care package sent by my mom. Inside was a stuffed hedgehog holding an "xoxo" heart, 2 Reese's hearts for the hubby, and some wonderful paper coasters from Anthropologie. Last, but not least, I pulled out an envelope chock full of stickers from my old sticker collection. A smattering of nostalgia, I tell you.

And my stickers were not ordinary (well, they were, but not to me). I coveted these things-- protected, loved, and CHERISHED them. It was a little sad to see them still on their paper though without having lived a proper sticker life. But I was a sticker snob at age 8. I stuck my nose up at friends who would stick their stickers directly ON the pages of their sticker albums-- phooey!

Anyway, here are just a few more Valentine-themed to make me chuckle. However, I did have to throw in the piece de resistance...the "I heart Boy George" sticker. LOVE IT! The one with the stop sign has "To Sarah From Anna" on the back which was my friend, Anna Daffara. I wonder what ever happened to her. Note the 1976 copyright, but I think it was 1983 when I received it from her. My mom also included valentines I gave my classmates that year as well. For another day though...

xoxo

P.S. Sold my 2nd item on Thursday! Sandy in Cincinnati bought my freshly listed oilcloth portable placemat (more to come). Her online store, Mommy Couture, is amazing. Thanks, Sandy!

A Pretty Tablecloth

I usually don't find great deals on things on vintage items on eBay, but I will look anyways. Sometimes, I just don't have the time or patience to go to antique stores or flea markets. And I never go to estate sales-- the whole thing seems rather competitive. So I often pay more for items on eBay just for the convenience. Let me say I got a pretty darn good deal on this wonderful tablecloth. There are absolutely no stains, rips, holes, NOTHIN. Thought I'd share because it makes me eager for spring. My mother loves lily of the valley, so it also reminds me of her. I think I got such a good deal on it because the seller didn't add a gallery photo, so you had to click on the listing to see what it looked like. I dunno, but I was the only bidder.

Today is the Super Bowl. So when Baby Girl Q gets up from her nap, we shall go to Auntie Jana and Uncle Mark's soiree. Just what I need-- more reasons to eat! Ok, I'm going to hibernate until then. See you soon, kids.
