I Had to Post This...

I'm stealing this from Cristin. I feel very compelled to re-post. Especially after learning that my church, the Catholic Church, spent $5.5 million dollars as proponents of Proposition 8. That's money I contribute on a weekly basis going towards something I am opposed to with every fiber of my being. If you are going to take the time to watch this all the way through and actually LISTEN to what he's saying, feel free to comment. Otherwise, move on. Yeah, it's like that.

Tomorrow, back to our regularly scheduled programming with a DUCF sneak peek.

The passage of Prop 8 was heartbreaking, but I'm encouraged by the fact that there was a clear generational divide between pro and anti votes. Older people were overwhelmingly for, younger people were overwhelmingly against. I'm also encouraged by how it has mobilized the community - there will be protests in every state on Saturday. This is definitely a set back, but I'm confident that things will change in the future.

Wow, that was an interesting news piece. And amen to it.

(And stuff like this is what totally drives people like me away from a lot of churches. We are both from catholic families and yet, there is so much in the catholic church that we just cannot get behind. Sigh.)

yikes..... that's all i have to say.

I wish I was heading to the show this weekend!!

I had to cancel due to my overwhelming neurosis. Well, basically I had to admit that I was human and could not do five shows in five weeks with three kids..

Let me know how it goes though and hopefully we can come out next year!

Keith Olberman puts it much more succinctly than I, but I agree w/ every word. I saw this when it originally aired (my boyfriend & I are avid Countdown w/ KO watchers) and found myself nodding, thumbs-upping, and "amen"-ing right along. Why anyone would want to stand in the way of love in this day & age is simply unfathomable to me. Mr. Olberman asks those opposed, "Why does this matter to you, what is it to you?" I'd like to know the same thing.

On a separate note, love your site, love your blog. Cheers!

I heard this live and made my Hubby watch the replay later that night. We're pretty big fans of Countdown around here. My 19 month old shouts, "Keef!" and does a happy-clappy-thingy when the music starts.

He says it more eloquently than I ever could, and I am equally horrified and saddened by the dichotomy of this election season. So many advancements, and yet...

This is just one of the many reasons I refer to myself as (no offense intended) a Recovering Catholic.

Makes me so sad that this is how people want to spend their time and energy. What DOES it matter to them?

GOOD FOR YOU with this post. I live in California and was seriously ashmaed of this state when Prop 8 was passed. Discrimination is discrimination, period. It makes me sick that people could vote for this Prop and live with themselves. I also think it is interesting when you explain the issue to a child and hear their take on it... I explained the entire thing to Andrew because he was asking what the "yellow signs" were all around San Diego.. he said "That is just MEAN. A man should marry a man if they love each other, right?" Amazing how simple the world would be if we all thought like that, right??!! UGH, can you tell Im still pissed about this haha??!! :)
