Blondies!

photo courtesy of kern.justin on Flickr

Today is National Blondie Appreciation Day-- as in blonde brownies, not the musical group led by Debbie Harry (although they deserve their own national appreciation day too!). I am torturing myself by posting this because I heart blondies even more than regular brownies. I am jonesin' for one, but I am still on my quest for skinniness in 2010, therefore I will refrain as long as possible.

But could someone make a batch of Martha's Cream Cheese Swirl Blondies and email me with every single detail of how they taste????? HA!

In other highlights from around the blogosphere:
  • Check out these adorbs printable Valentine bags from Farm Chicks
  • The cutest Happy Birthday post from Danielle at Thompson Family Life
  • Free downloadable brownie bag design from Kathleen at Twig & Thistle (photo courtesy of Kathleen's blog). Maybe you could fill it with some blondies!
  • Some drammer surrounding my best dressed Golden Globes gal, Christina Hendricks (in Christian Siriano, might I add). On a side note, if I could look like anyone in Hollywood, despite my constant quest to lose weight, it would be Christina Hendricks. I think she is soooo impossibly beautiful. Cathy Horyn is just a hater.
  • I so want to see The Runaways and not just because I love KStew. I think Joan Jett is such a bad ass, and I'm so excited to see her story told. Looks like it's debuting at Sundance and will be released in March. Gotta love the fashion and makeup of the late 70s.
Any fun weekend plans? I discovered a realllllly gooooood (although Ryan thinks it's trashy) low-point cocktail: Skyy Grape vodka and Sprite Zero (2 pts!). So I'll be drinking my meals. Ha. Besides that, Q has her very first ballet recital tomorrow night! I'm so proud of my lil' goofball. Happy weekending, all! xo

Fantastic Part II

What timing! Q's daycare lady's daughter works for Border's who gave Q some leftover promotional items from The Fantastic Mr. Fox! I think I was more excited about it than Q. Here she is in her super cute fox tail necktie (and her favorite nightgown-- Beatles Magical Mystery Tour tee). She also gave Q the cutest sticker book ever! A couple times Q had to tell me, "Mom, I can do it myself". I was having so much fun with it that I kinda got carried away. Sorry, Q!

A couple more things-- my girlfriend just introduced me to the wonderment that is Regretsy. Ahhhhh. I could look at it all day. I was trying not to bust out laughing in my cubicle this morning. Although, while perusing the Twilight section of goods, someone commented that, "What does suck is this movement of desperate housewives/'oops' mommies who dream of having sex with a barely pubescent vampire instead of enjoying their actual lives." Zing!!!! Damn Twi-loather. Whatev...go download some more Nickelback onto your ipod and leave us alooooone (I'm not bitter, heh). :)

And last but not least, Taylor Lautner is hosting SNL next weekend (post edit: December 12). It's not Rob, but my Tivo will be set.

Off to watch SYTYCD and Glee! Happy Hump Day.

Random (Non-Crafty) Tids & Bits

-When Ryan called me this morning to say he’d been in a car accident, I was going to kill him because I thought it was April Fools. It wasn’t! Luckily, he’s ok (back’s a little sore), but his poor car is not. Sounds like it was equal fault, so I’m a tad worried about our insurance going up, but at least it wasn’t more serious. I’m thanking my lucky stars, believe me.

+My dear friend, Amy, is being induced as we speak! Poor girl is a week past her due date. The suspense is killing me. She doesn’t know girl or boy. Either way, I’m going to make her one of these.

-My neighbor’s (BIG) shed is about to blow over into our yard. I want to call Code Enforcement, but he’ll know it’s me. When he moved in, I told him I used to call Code Enforcement on the previous owner all the time (he was an old, mean drunk, and let his grass grow to be 2 feet tall). And I don’t think I should have to ASK him to fix the problem. Fer cryin’ out loud!

+New Kids on the Block are going to be on the Today Show Friday at 7:00 am. Set your Tivos! My mom is convinced it’s going to be embarrassing. We shall see.

+We don’t owe a ton on our taxes (sigh of relief). I was worried because this year Ryan is a shareholder in his company, and we’d paid estimated taxes throughout the year.
Wasn’t sure I’d estimated enough. This is the first year I haven’t done Turbo Tax, and we actually hired an accountant. I love the man. Next, paying off all our credit card debt! Whoo hoo!

+Another man I love? The NPH. Nuff said.

-We saw I Am Legend this past weekend. Was so disappointed! The 1954 book was about vampires, so I thought I’d get my Dracula on. The new interpretation was a really BAD rip off of 28 Days Later (which is quite possibly my favorite movie of all time, so don’t even try to mess with it). Plus, the CGI zombies and animals were soooooo fake- looking. Gads.

+Maroon 5 & Counting Crows are coming to town in August! Battle of the Adams!

?Justin and Madonna have a new song out together called 4 Minutes. Not sure how I feel about it quite yet…

?Trying to decide when I want to be done with work. My c-section is scheduled for Thurs, May 1. Should I work up until the end? Or should I take a few days to relax and hang out with Q??? Help me out, kids!!!

Ok, sorry for the wordy (=boring) post. That’s just me in a nutshell for now. Hope you’re all having a great week! xo

Britney...Sweetie...

Train wreck! Did you see the VMA's??? Britney was HORRRRIBLE (shudder, shudder). Between the really bad lip-syncing (there were times where I think she forgot she was supposed to be "singing"), the whore garb, weird male dancer crotch-grabbing, creepy hair-plug looking extensions, Mom gut, and spacey half-ass dancing, I was so embarrassed to watch...yet I could not look away. Funny how that goes.

Speaking of train wrecks. Did you hear the crickets when Sara Silverman was doing the opening?? EEK. Painful.

Ok, down to business. I scored some great flea market finds this morning. I have my system down pat now. Funny I am always drawn to Japanese salt and pepper shakers and hankies. I don't mean to be-- I try to keep an open mind, really. And I didn't intend for the whole pink and red theme. It just happened this way. You can see more pictures in my Flickr Set.

Furthermore, this is my 100th (!) post! I was trying to figure out what to do, and in the effort to secure a few more than TWO comments from my last contest, I will share the wealth of my cute vintage finds instead of making something. Thanks to everyone who reads my lil' sagas of nonsense on a regular basis (and those newcomers too!).
I am snitching from Heather and Colleen a bit on this next part (thanks for the idea, girls). Comment on my blog, and you will be entered to win some of my vintage goodness! Link to my contest on your blog, and you will get two more chances to win. Just email me with your blog link to let me know.

For your consideration, I will be including a smattering of at least EIGHT items, mostly from today's conquest (and definitely what's shown below), maybe 1 or 2 from previous ventures. I'll pick a name at random on Wednesday, September 12 (Q's 22 month bday, ha). Thanks, and comment away!

The No No Song

Did I ever tell you I am a pop culture junkie? I think I got it from my brother. If I were to ever apply to the World Series of Pop Culture it would be with him and his wife (let's do it, Joel and Ruth! ha). I like being addicted to pop culture. Although, Ryan gives me a hard time because I can probably tell you the name of every cast member from Lost, but ask me about politics and world affairs, that’s another story. Kinda pathetic.

I may have also gotten it from my mother who (and I’m not kidding you) has called me up on multiple occasions and will ask something along the lines of, “Have you seen Beyonce’s new video? That song isn’t very good, and she’s being downright nasty in it!”. About five years ago, she called me and said, “Have you heard of this group called Maroon 5?” I hadn’t yet. She also loves Queen, Gwen Stefani, and Prince.

Anyway, I’m apparently keeping the pop culture awareness alive. The other day, in the car, I asked Q what she wanted to listen to. I’m NOT KIDDING YOU, she said, “No No Song! No No Song!!” which translates to Rehab by Amy Winehouse (as in “They try to make me go to Rehab, and I say NO NO NO”). She loves it and gets this little bobble head thing going in her carseat. Probably not a kid's song she should be listening to, but ain't no way I can handle something like The Wiggles in the morning. Ryan will have to balance her out with teaching her about more important (less fun but way more intellectually significant) things. He has already bought her U.S. President flashcards, and the kid’s not even 2—lucky her!

On a crafty note, check out Crafty Chica's Amy Winehouse wig project! It's a riot!
